I had the van booked in for a service today.
Nothing out of the ordinary there.
In the past, I’ve been able to get a loan car to get around in while it happens. Today though I took a different tack.
My local service guy is in Geelong not that far away from the clinic where I was going to be all day. So I set about putting asking for help into practice.
I would have tried to turn myself inside out so that I didn’t inconvenience anyone. And to be honest my mind still went there yesterday as I was starting to plan the day ahead.
Looking to pin the “I can do it all by myself“ badge on my chest. I was thinking of loading up the bike, calculating how long I’d need. And all that.
Then I paused.
Thought who can I ask for help?
Who is around?
And I picked up the phone.
By taking the time and being ok with a bit of vulnerability, there were two great people I got to touch base and have conversations with.
In the process, I allowed some ease into what was going to be a full day.
As a result, I arrived home feeling better than I left.
To enjoy the glass of wine as I cooked dinner and caught up with Loretta and the kids.
A different sense of achievement at the end of the day.
There are lots of different ways to get this presence of mind, you can
